Position Summary
The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in the success of the organization, working as a liaison to the community by engaging people through thoughtfully curated events, media segments, and communication from the organization. These efforts expand the footprint of Cincinnati Animal CARE to further the lifesaving mission of the organization, maintain community relationships, and build connections for future partnerships.
This Community Engagement Coordinator is a team player with a positive attitude, a passion for animal welfare, a drive to succeed, has an appreciation for collaboration, and is excited to work for a tenacious young startup doing lifesaving work in Hamilton County.
Focuses of this role include the responsibility to plan, coordinate, and execute events with the intention to increase adoptions, donations, and/or the organization’s visibility in the community. This position will work closely with shelter staff, specifically the Sr. Communications Manager, the Volunteer Coordinator, and the Foster Manager, to collaborate efforts for the maximum positive impact on the shelter, working with these departments to arrange for animals to attend and participate in events when appropriate.
This person will additionally be responsible for establishing an annual, large-scale, signature event and assisting the Executive Leadership Team with all-staff events.
The Community Engagement Coordinator will report to the Sr. Communications Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify and connect with key community leaders, organizations, and groups.
- Attend community events and meetings to build rapport and promote the organization.
- Develop and maintain a network of community partners.
- Assist the Sr. Communications Manager with managing the organization’s public image and messaging within the community and implement media outreach strategies.
- Research and strategically identify events that would be beneficial to adoptions, fundraising, brand awareness and community support for Cincinnati Animal CARE
- Maintain an Events Calendar and ensure all relevant stakeholders are aware and engaged with upcoming events
- Create and adhere to a budget, in conjunction with the Sr. Communications Manager, along with a calendar/timelines for yearly events
- Create and disseminate communication materials (e.g., newsletters, social media posts, website content) to promote programs and events
- Craft event descriptions and create Facebook events, invite followers to the event page, and draft social media posts to promote an event that will be finalized by the Communications Coordinator, and Scheduled by the Social Media Specialist
- Manage logistics for events, such as venue booking, registration, volunteer recruitment, and animal recruitment, if animals are needed to attend and/or participate in an event
- Monitor and evaluate the success of events by keeping accurate records
- Create and adhere to a budget and timelines for each event
- Track event success and make recommendations for future improvements
- Maintain, transport, and manage event supplies, and occasionally animals, to and from events
- Handle event operations, including venue preparation, setup, participant experience, breakdown, cleanup, and returning animals and materials to the shelter
- Supervise staff, volunteers, and animals during events
- Assist with planning and executing internal CAC events including staff appreciation, holiday, and training events as needed
- Track participation and engagement metrics for community programs
- Analyze data to identify trends and inform program improvements
- Prepare reports on community engagement activities
- Import/export data from shelter data management systems

- Adhere to CAC’s organizational policies, safety protocols, and culture agreement; report injuries within 24 hours. Maintain a positive attitude, professional appearance, and tactful public interactions.
- Work collaboratively with shelter staff, volunteers, and fosters, fostering positive relationships and encouraging program support. Communicate regularly with the Communications Manager about progress, issues, and concerns. Attend staff meetings and share ideas to improve operations and meet lifesaving goals.
- Demonstrate efficient time management, organization, and initiative. Adhere to a flexible schedule to meet event and shelter needs, ensuring timely attendance. Commit to transparency, team motivation, and a positive work environment.
- Show enthusiasm for continued learning and adoption processes, applying best practices in animal welfare, shelter operations, and event management. Handle unpredictable, difficult, or dangerous animals with care and set aside biases to approach each animal as an individual.
- Be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, bend, and work in high-noise environments.
- Interact with animals, staff, and the public empathetically and compassionately, while inspiring exceptional work among the team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Understanding of Google Drive
- Experience managing events
- Possess strong communication skills – verbal and written
- Ability to write routine reports, newsletters and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively to groups of customers, volunteers, or employees
- Professional, enthusiastic, and positive demeanor
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to provide constructive and positive feedback to staff and volunteers, as well as receiving feedback.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and safe driving record acceptable to the CAC insurance carrier
Working Conditions:

- Exposure and handling unvetted animals and their waste is frequent.
