Position Summary

Under the direction of the Field Operations Manager (LT), the Field Resource Officer (FRO) will provide field support for the Dog Warden team. This position will work under general supervision and must be able to exercise independent judgment and action within the departmental defined policies and procedures.

The Field Resource Officer will be responsible for assisting the Deputy Dog Wardens by responding to stray dogs, assisting with the transport of lost pets back to their homes as directed, and assisting with animal and supplies transport as needed. They may also be directed to patrol certain areas for lost pets, or deliver, set up and monitor dog or cat traps out to the public as requested by a Deputy Dog Warden.

The Field Resource Officer may also attend local events to help in educating the public about proper pet parenting, dog registration, and providing guidance to help keep dogs in homes. They may also help to support our community members who have stepped up to help lost pets in their community through our found animal programs.

This is an non-commissioned, unarmed, position that was created as an entry-level role to provide opportunities for individuals to become involved in Field Services and to support the Deputy Dog Wardens in serving our community. This Field Resource Officer position is an exciting opportunity for a results-driven, customer focused team player who wants to grow in the field of animal welfare.

The successful candidate is strong in their customer service, dog handling and organizational skills. This person must have the ability to maintain a positive, supportive attitude while helping customers (both two and four legged) and ensuring that the policies and procedures in the department are followed. The ideal candidate is unsatisfied with the status quo and actively seeks and accepts feedback and opportunities for improvement. Duties and responsibilities:

  • Picking up confined strays as directed by the LT/Field Operations Manager (FOM)
  • Picking up strays from local PD, Vet Hospitals
  • Assist in returning dogs home when owners have transport challenges to picking up lost pets from the shelter
  • Provide assistance to families in the community that may need food or supplies delivered from our Community Support team
  • Other field duties as needed, assigned by FOM or requested by a Deputy Warden
  • Inventory vehicles weekly to ensure Dog Warden equipment is in working order and in vehicles

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to handle all breeds/sizes/temperaments of dogs and cats to move them in and out of a vehicle
  • Safe driving record, ability to safely drive a cargo/transit van
  • Ability to use navigational tools and knowledge of the various communities in Hamilton County
  • Familiar with county and state ordinances, specifically the Ohio Revised Code 955 and 956
  • Anticipates and identifies problems, and proactively seeks solutions in the absence of perfect data; practices excellent and creative problem-solving skills

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, controls, or tools listed above; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Exposure and handling unvetted animals and their waste is frequent.
