Foster Specialist

It’s an exciting time to join the Cincinnati Animal CARE team! Cincinnati Animal CARE is the new county Humane Society in Hamilton County and with this change in operational leadership comes the opportunity to be part of a new beginning in Greater Cincinnati animal services.
Job Summary
The goal of this department is to get animals into foster homes so that they are not taking up kennel space, can have a better quality of life in a home while they await adoption, and we can learn more about them as pets. The Foster Manager will oversee a small team of staff and volunteers who will implement day trips, short-term fostering, long-term fostering and fostering for our community support program such as temporary housing for reasons like domestic violence, cruelty cases, and homelessness.

Responsibilities
- Assist with the placement of animals when they arrive at intake
- Provide excellent customer service to pet parents and potential fosters
- Assist with the matching of foster families with appropriate foster animals based on their skills and situation
- Respond to emails and phone calls from pet and foster parents within a timely manner on assigned workdays and schedule
- Receive and approve foster applications
- Maintain an organized, accessible list of foster families, availability, and contact information for all foster families
- Report any foster family concerns to the Foster Manager or Coordinator
- Schedule vaccines and medication pickup as needed with foster families
- Assist with the tracking of supplies for foster program
- Assist with the scheduling of the pick up and return of foster animals
- Schedule adoption Meet & Greets with potential adopters and foster families
- Assist with matching animals for Day Trips
- Assist with the management of our Foster Facebook Page
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Customer service experience preferred
- Comfortable with all sizes, breeds and species of animals
- Ability to understand and adhere to policies and procedures
- Possess strong and empathetic communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive issues
- Ability to work under general supervision
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to restrain animals
- Ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Strong data entry skills
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift at least 30lbs
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
Work Environment
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Exposure to unvetted animals is frequent; basic knowledge of animal behavior and common sense is needed.
