Laughter saves lives during all-day adoption event ahead of sold-out comedy show
Cincinnati, OH — May 11th, 2025 — It’s going to be a laugh-out-loud kind of day at Cincinnati Animal CARE, Hamilton County’s animal shelter, when on Saturday, May 17, the shelter will host a special “Dog’gone Funny” Adoption Event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., opening early to kick off a full day of lifesaving, laughter, and love!
The promotion? “Tell a joke, and we’ll name your adoption fee!” So it better be funny! From cheesy one-liners to comedy gold, all it takes is a sense of humor and our “Laugh-meter” to take home a new best friend! All animals 6 months and older are eligible.
“This is one of the most joyful, feel-good events we’ve ever put on,” said Carolyn Evans, Executive Director of Cincy CARE “We’re combining the healing power of laughter with the unconditional love of rescue animals—and that’s a winning punchline every time.”
The event sets the stage for the sold-out Dog’gone Funny Comedy Show happening that same evening at Urban Artifact in Northside, and wraps a full week of filming with the Shelter Me crew. The show starts at 8, and the night will be emceed by Tricia Macke of FOX19, and will feature 20 adoptable dogs from Cincy CARE. The show features an all-star lineup of comedians including Steve Caminiti, Alex Reymundo, Tom Mabe, Kelly Collette, Gabe Kea, Mark Chalifoux, Jeff Jena, and more, and additionally includes a glimpse of shelter programming, featuring prominent fosters and volunteers with the organization sharing stories at the event.
The comedy event will also be filmed as part of an upcoming episode of PBS’s Shelter Me—an Emmy Award-winning documentary series produced by Steven Latham Productions, highlighting the impact of animal shelters across the country, after a week of filming at Cincy CARE, and will air and stream on PBS later this year.
