Our most important Lifesaving Partner is YOU! Our community. Since Cincinnati Animal CARE took over the county shelter on August 1, 2020, the residents of Hamilton County have shown us they value animal lives and expect more from their county shelter.
In the year 2025 alone:
- You adopted 5,915 animals, including 3,116 dogs, 2,771 cats, 16 rabbits, 4 barn animals, 3 birds, 1 reptile, and 4 other small companions
- You opened your homes and hearts through 10,404 foster placements, giving animals the time, care, and comfort they needed to thrive.
- You helped care for 8,308 animals who came to us, including 4,555 cats, 6,162 dogs, 18 horses, 24 rabbits, 8 birds, 8 barn animals, 5 small and furry pets, 3 reptiles, and 25 wildlife neighbors like raccoons, opossums, and deer. The majority of non-dog and cat animals found safety through rescue placement because of you.
- You made second chances possible through 1,121 transfers, helping cats and dogs move on to partner rescues and new beginnings.
- You supported accessible care by serving 2,392 animals through our vaccine clinic and community spay and neuter services.
- You showed up in a big way with your time and talent, with an incredible 58,621 volunteer and foster hours logged this year.

Cincinnati Animal CARE is a PetSmart Charities Silver Level Adoption Partner!
We’re incredibly proud to share that Cincinnati Animal CARE helped more than 750 pets find homes through PetSmart in-store adoptions in 2025—earning Silver Medal Status in the PetSmart Charities Adoption Partner program. This milestone reflects the dedication of our staff, volunteers, fosters, and community who make lifesaving possible every day.
Meet our Rescue Partners
Our rescue partners come to Cincinnati Animal CARE and take dogs and cats into their shelter or organization. This is a HUGE help because it allows us to clear space for all the incoming animals. We call these “rescue pulls” and we thank each and every partner that took dogs and cats from us.
Cat Rescue Partners
Cat rescue partners play a vital role in Cincinnati Animal CARE's mission to save lives. By partnering with CAC, these dedicated organizations help transport cats from the shelter to rescue groups, opening up much-needed space and ensuring more cats receive the care and attention they deserve.
Dog Rescue Partners
Dog rescue partners are essential to CAC's lifesaving efforts, helping to ensure more dogs have the opportunity to find loving homes. By collaborating with CAC, these rescue organizations step in to take dogs in need into their care. This partnership creates more space at the shelter, allowing CAC to continue serving the community while giving dogs a better chance for individualized attention and specialized support.
Small Pets, Farm Animals, and Wildlife Rescues
Small animal rescue partners are essential to Cincinnati Animal CARE's lifesaving efforts, ensuring that animals like chickens, rabbits, and snakes have the opportunity to find loving homes. By collaborating with CAC, these specialized rescue organizations step in to care for small animals in need, providing them with tailored environments and expertise.
