Calling all dog lovers!
With 200-300 dogs at the shelter at any given time, it takes a huge team to help provide the love and care our dogs need while they’re at Cincinnati Animal CARE. By joining our Dog Care team you can make a direct impact on the lives of hundreds of dogs as they wait to find their forever homes!
Dog Care Volunteer Opportunities
Whether you want to handle dogs or help with work behind the scenes, there's something for everyone!
Walk Team
Want to help improve the lives of the dogs in our care and get some exercise at the same time!? Join the Walk Team! This volunteer-led team is filled with passionate people who work together to get our dogs out of their kennels for a chance to explore and stretch their legs. Walk group is a great way to get your steps in, be a part of a great community, make new friends, hang out with animals and really make a difference in people and animals' lives!
Dishes & Laundry
With 100’s of dogs in our care at any given time, laundry and dishes can definitely pile up! Washing dishes and doing laundry is a daily need at Cincinnati Animal CARE. With the support of our volunteers we are able to provide our animals with clean blankets, dishes, and toys which can bring a dog a lot of comfort while in their kennels. This is a great role for those who enjoy working in more of a behind the scenes capacity.
Cleaning & Feeding
Join our Dog Care team and become a part of our morning cleaning routine! Volunteers will help with cleaning kennels and preparing the dog's morning breakfast. This role will help CAC by creating making cleaning more efficient to free up both staff and volunteers to to walking dogs, promoting a better quality of life for our dogs. Come prepared to get a little messy!
Volunteer Feature:
Lori R.
Lori has been with CAC since the very beginning and runs our volunteer walk group at our Colerain shelter. Here what Lori has to say about her volunteer experience:
"Volunteering is a very rewarding experience so please jump in! There are so many wonderful, like-minded, mission-driven people and there is a place for everyone. As an older volunteer with grown children, I feel very maternal with the walk group volunteers. I want everyone to be safe, enjoy the mission, and feel comfortable adopting the dogs at CAC. I have also made lifelong friends and I don’t remember what I did prior to my 10 years running walk groups."
Meet our Walk Team Volunteers
Here are some of the friendly faces you'll see around the shelter if you join our volunteer dog walking team!
What our dog care volunteers have to say:
"I had recently retired from playing roller derby. It left a huge hole in my life, and I needed something else to spend my time on that I could get excited about. My former teammate, Miranda, invited me to join her for walk team. She knew I would love it. I showed up and never looked back. It's been over 2 years now."
Cara H.
"Come and learn what there is to do! Doing something new can be a little intimidating and scary but it can also be one of the greatest experiences of your life. By volunteering at CARE you are not only making a difference in your life but also in the lives of the animals, many you may not even realize."
