Cincinnati Animal CARE Launches “The Pittie Tour”
A One-of-a-Kind Neighborhood Walking Tour Celebrating Pitties and the People Who Love Them
CINCINNATI, OH, Friday, April 24 — Cincinnati Animal CARE, the Hamilton County animal shelter and resource center, and sole provider of animal services for the county, invites the community to experience Northside in a whole new way with “The Pittie Tour,” a neighborhood walking tour celebrating pitties and pittie–type dogs on Sunday, May 17 at 3:00 PM.
Beginning at Cincinnati Animal CARE’s Dane Avenue location, participants will check in, receive a tour map, and set off on foot, either in groups or individually, to explore Northside within designated route boundaries. Along the way, guests will meet beloved neighborhood pitties at curated stops hosted by local residents and community members.
From front porches and front yards to sidewalks and nearby parks, friendly dogs and their owners will be stationed throughout the neighborhood to welcome visitors. Guests can expect a lively, community-oriented atmosphere with opportunities to meet adoptable pups along the way. All participating dogs will be leashed and accompanied by their handlers at all times, and all interactions will take place outdoors to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. This unique experience offers a chance to connect with some of Northside’s most charming, and most misunderstood, canine residents.
The Pittie Tour is the dog-friendly follow-up to Cincinnati Animal CARE’s COPYCAT Tour held last fall, which was modeled after the Wedge Cat Tour in Minneapolis. After the overwhelming success of that event, which welcomed more than 200 participants, this new experience brings the same community-driven concept to dog lovers, celebrating the neighborhood’s most iconic pitties in a format that is both interactive and uniquely Northside.
The tour will conclude at Northside Yacht Club, where attendees can connect with fellow participants, share stories, and enjoy food, drinks, and community.
“This event is a celebration of the dogs who are already part of this community, and a chance to change perceptions through real, positive interactions,” said Lisa Colina, Senior Manager of Community Engagement at Cincinnati Animal CARE. “Northside is a neighborhood that shows up for these dogs every day, and this tour brings that spirit to life in a fun and meaningful way.”
Why This Event Matters
This event was created to celebrate a group of dogs that are too often misunderstood. Pitties and pittie–type dogs consistently make up a significant portion of shelter populations nationwide, including at Cincinnati Animal CARE. Despite their reputation, these dogs are known for their affectionate, people-oriented nature and thrive when given structure, stability, and a loving home.
At Cincinnati Animal CARE, every animal is treated as an individual, not defined by breed or stereotype. Through events like The Pittie Tour, the organization aims to create positive, real-life interactions that challenge misconceptions and highlight what these dogs are truly like: loyal companions who simply need the right environment to succeed. As part of that commitment to responsible pet ownership and community wellbeing, all participating dogs in this event are required to be spayed or neutered.
Supporting a Lifesaving Mission
While the event is free to attend, merchandise purchases and community participation help support Cincinnati Animal CARE’s mission to provide lifesaving care to thousands of animals each year.
Participants can register for the free walking tour at cincycare.org or through Cincinnati Animal CARE’s Facebook page. Event merchandise will also be available for purchase, with proceeds directly supporting the animals in care. Northside residents interested in participating as a tour stop are encouraged to register their home and dog in advance.
