Isabel Klee Inspires 600+ Animal Lovers to Foster During Cincinnati Book Signing Event
An unforgettable evening at Joseph-Beth Booksellers highlighted the lifesaving impact of fostering, storytelling, and community support for Cincinnati Animal CARE’s shelter animals.
On Friday, May 8, more than 600 people gathered at Joseph-Beth Booksellers for an unforgettable evening celebrating dogs, storytelling, compassion, and community. Cincinnati Animal CARE was incredibly honored to be invited to participate in Isabel Klee’s book signing event for her memoir, Dogs, Boys, and Other Things I’ve Cried About — a night that beautifully highlighted the life-changing impact people can have when they come together for animals in need.
Isabel Klee: Book Signing Event by Cincinnati Animal CARE
From the moment the doors opened, the energy in the room was electric. Hundreds of attendees filled the bookstore to hear Isabel speak, connect with fellow animal lovers, and celebrate the deep emotional bond between people and pets. We are so grateful to Isabel for using her platform to inspire compassion, advocacy, and action for shelter animals everywhere.
We also want to extend a huge thank you to Joseph-Beth Booksellers for hosting such an incredible event and welcoming our team so warmly. Their support helped create a meaningful evening that directly benefited the animals in our care.
A portion of book sales from the event benefited Cincinnati Animal CARE, alongside an additional $252 donated directly by attendees to support our lifesaving mission. Every dollar raised helps provide medical care, foster support, enrichment, behavioral resources, and second chances for vulnerable animals in Hamilton County.
If you’d like to read Isabel’s memoir and support her work, you can purchase Dogs, Boys, and Other Things I’ve Cried About through Joseph-Beth Booksellers.
Community Is What Makes This Work Possible
The most inspiring part of the evening wasn’t just the turnout or the donations raised — it was seeing how many people care deeply about making a difference. More than 600 people showed up because they believe animals matter. They believe stories matter. They believe compassion matters.
That same spirit powers our foster program every day.
Every foster parent, volunteer, donor, adopter, and supporter plays a role in helping animals get the second chances they deserve. Whether you foster for one weekend, one month, or one year, your impact is real and lasting.
And the truth is, we need more people willing to step into that role.

Alani Stole the Show
While the evening centered around powerful storytelling, one very special guest may have quietly become the star of the night. Foster dog Alani, a six-month-old suspected Great Pyrenees mix, attended the event representing Cincinnati Animal CARE — and she absolutely melted hearts. Despite being in a room packed with hundreds of people, Alani handled the excitement like a pro. She spent more than three hours being pet, doted on, and adored by attendees, all while showing off her sweet and gentle personality.
Alani is suspected to have Carpal Laxity Syndrome in her front legs, but she doesn’t let that slow her down for a second. She charmed everyone she met and reminded us all that resilience comes in many forms.
Watching people connect with Alani throughout the evening was a powerful reminder of why fostering matters so much. Without a foster home, dogs like Alani may never have the opportunity to decompress, build confidence, and show the world who they truly are.
Bumble’s Foster Journey by Cincinnati Animal CARE
Bumble’s Story: The Power of Fostering Changes Everything
Events like this are also an opportunity to highlight the incredible impact our foster community has every single day.
One foster story that perfectly reflects that impact is Bumble’s.
When Bumble first entered foster care through Cincinnati Animal CARE, he needed time, patience, and someone willing to believe in him. Like many shelter dogs, the stress of the shelter environment made it difficult for his personality to fully shine. But once he landed in a foster home, everything changed.
His foster family helped him feel safe, loved, and understood. They learned his quirks, celebrated his progress, shared photos and updates, and helped introduce him to potential adopters in a way that simply isn’t possible inside a kennel.
Because someone opened their home, Bumble got the chance to become more than just another face in the shelter. He became a beloved companion with a story, a personality, and a future. That’s the magic of fostering!
Fosters are often the bridge between homelessness and happily ever after. They give animals a soft place to land, help us learn more about their behavior and needs, and provide the love and stability that helps pets thrive. You Can Make a Difference by Fostering
Right now, animals across Hamilton County need temporary foster homes where they can rest, recover, grow, and prepare for adoption.
Some need a break from the shelter environment. Some are recovering from illness or injury. Some are too young for adoption. Others simply need someone to help them feel safe again.
Fostering can look different for everyone:
- Taking a dog home for a weekend sleepover
- Caring for puppies or kittens
- Helping a shy dog build confidence
- Giving a medical recovery dog a quiet place to heal
- Providing long-term support for an animal waiting for the right match
No matter your experience level, Cincinnati Animal CARE will help support you every step of the way with supplies, medical care, training resources, and guidance.
The truth is, one person opening their home can completely change an animal’s future.
We saw that in Alani’s joyful confidence at Joseph-Beth.
We saw it in Bumble’s transformation through foster care.
And we saw it reflected in the hundreds of people who gathered together to celebrate compassion, storytelling, and community impact.
To everyone who attended the event, donated, purchased a book, stopped by to meet Alani, or supports our mission in any way — thank you. Your kindness helps create brighter futures for animals who need it most.
And to Isabel Klee: thank you for inspiring so many people to care deeply, love boldly, and get involved. We are so grateful to have been part of such a meaningful night.
