Due to the amount of training required to get started we ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 6 months. Volunteers are expected to volunteer regular service (weekly/monthly) but we do not currently have any strict hour requirements in order to remain an active volunteer. Volunteers who do not contribute any volunteer service in a 6 month time period are at risk for being removed from the program.

We do not have a set volunteer uniform, however, all volunteers are required to wear closed toed shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting dirty. Volunteers who show up to their shift with improper footwear will be sent home. Volunteers are encouraged to wear pants when working directly with our animals and are not permitted to wear dangling jewelry for safety reasons. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring any water, snacks, or sun protection that they may need during a volunteer shift.

Yes! All volunteers are required to attend an in-person New Volunteer Orientation before getting started. Instructions on how to sign up for orientation will be emailed to you after submitting your application. Depending on the areas you want to volunteer in you may be required to complete additional online or in-person training before you can get started in certain roles.

Yes we can accept community service hours for school through our long-term volunteer program. Court-ordered community service is accepted on a case-by-case basis. Please reference the Community Service section for our requirements for court ordered service.
